EXHIBITION CLUSTERS AT LORD HOUSE
The Power of Story
All of the women featured in the exhibition are storytellers. The five questions they respond to illuminate their stories. And we all need to listen because, as Aminatta Forna reminds us “ … stories are how we come to understand the world.” Stories connect us; they help us see ourselves and learn about others. As you view each cluster, remember how powerful stories are and look for the connections.

Weaving Families and Communities
Family and community feed the soul. These women derive strength, inspiration, purpose, and comfort from their blood ties and the communities they have worked to weave together. Perhaps it’s not surprising that three in this cluster have built their lives around cooking for others.

Moving the World
“There is so much left to do … so much awareness to raise.” Jane Goodall here offers a sentiment shared by all of these women. They seek to make a positive impact on the world by raising awareness, affecting change, serving those who have been marginalized or are unable to speak for themselves. Their contributions have been felt powerfully at the local and global levels.

The Journey Matters
These women’s stories remind us of life’s circuitous path—marked by uncertainty, disappointment, hardship, revelation, love, and delight. What they confront and how they confront these experiences and realities shape their characters and outlooks. Their journeys matter.
